It has been predicted there will be in excess of 30 billion connected devices by 2020. This is estimated to include 250 million connected cars, each of which could generate 25 GB of date every hour. This explosion in data will present huge problems both in terms of the wireless networks themselves but also in how it is to be processed, stored and analysed.

If the business case requires the data to be processed in real-time this adds even more of a challenge.

Currently less than 1% of IoT data is analysed, but historically businesses have been shown to gain about 50% more value from analysing and combining different IoT data sources.
